I’m so excited. March my birthday month, but it’s also Women’s History Month and this week is International Women’s Week. Now that my excitement’s out of the way, lets’ get on with today’s post. The other day, I thought about how we can sometimes be our own worst critic, whether it’s for a makeup or fashion look or putting off going after something we want. I’m guilty of it and I know I’m not the only one. A positive affirmation or a good quote can help you look at things in a new light so you can get started on reaching your next goals. In today’s post, I’m sharing some girl power quotes to inspire you to take the first steps towards accomplishing those things this International Women’s Week
5 GIRL POWER QUOTES TO INSPIRE YOU THIS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S WEEK

“Perseverance is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th.” ~Julie Andrews
One of my favorite quotes to start off the list. When it comes to accomplishing everyday tasks that I might struggle with due to my disability, I keep going and this quote might as well be on repeat in my head. However, when it comes to other things, it’s much harder to push through and keep going, but doable nonetheless. I’m learning that your mindset has a lot to do with that. I guess in some ways it makes sense. We’re used to having to put in the effort for daily living, but in other things, you have no idea if you’ll succeed, so why keep going? For me, I keep going, because I believe that accomplishing this goal will be worth it in end and it is possible, I just haven’t found the way to do it, so I’ll keep going until I do.

“Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another steppingstone to greatness.” ~Oprah Winfrey
I love this quote, It’s one of my favorite girl power quotes of all time. I’m learning it’s important to do your research, but make a move anyway. Don’t spend too much on one particular thing, because it’s easy to get stuck there. Research, try something, and if you fail, learn and move forward, as the quote says “do not be afraid to fail…. It’s a stepping stone.” Whether you’re talking about accomplishing something on your own like a new activity, skill, or a new venture it’s all the same. Failure will happen because we won’t get everything right the first time, find the lessons in your failures because they may help you succeed the next time and take a moment to appreciate the little thing on your journey to success.

“Do the one thing you think you cannot do. Fail at it. Try again. Do better the second time. The only people who never tumble are those who never mount the high wire. This is your moment. Own it.” ~Oprah Winfrey
I know I know, yet another quote about failure and perseverance, but it’s the last one on the list. Have you ever automatically said no to trying something that you didn’t think you’d be able to do because of your disability or some other reason? I have. Sometimes I was right, other times I was wrong. I was happy to be wrong, but I realized I was wrong because someone else pushed me to try anyway, even though I might not succeed.
My favorite example comes from my makeup journey. When I was younger I loved everything about it, but wholeheartedly believed I would never learn to do certain aspects of it on my own. I had help learning the basics like primer, foundation, and lipgloss when I first started wearing makeup in my teens. After that, I moved on to eyeliner and though I struggled to apply it initially, I eventually learned how to basic eyeliner. I decided to keep going with eyeshadow, but I quickly realized this was going to much harder than applying eyeliner. I accepted that and stuck to the basics.
When I decided to give a try again, I changed my approach to not only learning how to apply eyeshadow, but other aspects of a makeup routine such as lipliner, lipstick, and some other products as well. I changed my approach to learning makeup techniques and improving my makeup skills. I’m still working toward my end goal, but skills have improved and that’s how I interpreted the quote, sure Oprah might have had something on a larger scale in mind, but this one of my goals for now. Don’t walk away from something thinking you can’t do without trying first, you may be surprised. If you fail, adjust your plan, or maybe even your end goal then try again.

“I will wear makeup because I want to look good for myself, but it’s not to please other people. It’s not so I fit in with the pretty girls or to impress guys.” ~Daya
You know I had to throw a few makeup quotes in the mix right? I love this quote by Daya because it’s exactly how I feel about makeup. I like wearing makeup. I like doing simple looks to go out everyday life or putting a little more thought and effort into the look for special occasions. Your makeup is for you, whatever style you choose for whatever mood you’re in, it’s for you.

“Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.” ~Helen Keller
Before sitting down to write this post, I cleaned out my makeup storage space. I wanted to be productive so I was also listening to The Spark Show Podcast by Gwen Lane. in one episode she talks about fear and how we let fear hold us back from really giving something our all. This quote reminded me of that. If you’re thinking of trying something new, do your research make your plan and get started, believe in yourself, you can do this.
I hope these quotes inspire you to strive to reach your goals, make time for some self-care and so much more. Are you more inspired by music rather than quotes or positive affirmations? Check out a few of the songs on my playlist that I like to listen to while I’m working on my blog.

Be it music, quotes, and/or positive affirmations, work to find gets you inspires and motivates you to achieve your goals. Your mindset when working on this is one of the most important aspects of getting there, something I just started learning a few weeks ago. Believe in yourself, you’re the only one who can put in the work to make your goals/dreams a reality so keep moving forward. Do you have any girl power quotes you think need to be added to this list? Let me know in the comments.
Happy International Women’s Week!
