Are you struggling to get into the Christmas spirit? This year given everything that has happened, it seems difficult to get into the holiday spirit, still, I wanted to this season because Christmas is my favorite time of year, and even though the celebrations this year will be a bit different if nothing else this it has shown me the importance of family and friends. That being said, I’m sharing how I get in the holiday spirit with a few ideas to celebrate and bring cheer this Covid Christmas season.

How I Get In The Christmas Spirit
Decorating The Tree & The House As a kid, decorating was one of my favorite parts of the holiday season. My family always had a fake tree, but that didn’t diminish the experience for me. My mom made sure we went all out, the tree was covered in tinsel, lights, ornaments, and candy canes, though by the time Christmas came, those somehow would disappear from the tree… These days, our decorating isn’t nearly as elaborate, but it’s still a fun part of the season for me.
Christmas Music & Movies: The music and movies that play during the season are something that I definitely need to get into the holiday spirit. I have to ask though, when is it too early for that? I saw Christmas movies playing on Halloween and the Christmas Tree picture, I posted a few days ago I took at the mall around Halloween last year. Anyway, deep thinking, I love watching Christmas Movies in order to get in the spirit of the season. A few of my favorite Christmas movies include Netflix’s Operation Christmas Drop, The Princess Switch, & The Santa Clause Trilogy.

When it comes to Christmas music, I really like listening to the classic songs, but I love listening to new pieces as well, such as Lea Michele’s Christmas in New York, Leona Lewis’ One More Sleep, or Pentatonix’s version of That’s Christmas to me. In fact, as I sat in front of my computer writing blog posts or working on some other part of it all this past month, these Christmas songs were on repeat when I got tired of the quiet.
Accessories & Ugly Christmas Sweaters: I have always loved getting a top or two and accessories especially earrings to commemorate holidays. From Easter eggs for Easter to flags and stars for Independence Day or spiders and pumpkins for Halloween, but accessorizing for Christmas definitely contributes to my Christmas spirit. Although I wouldn’t wear them to an event unless it’s a theme, I love Ugly Christmas Sweaters, in the “it’s so ugly it’s cute” kind of way. Since the Christmas Celebration is at home this year because of the pandemic, I might be wearing it this Christmas.
Looking at All The Lights & Decorations: One of my favorite activities to do during the Christmas season is driving around looking at all the ways people decorated their homes. I love seeing it in person even if it’s not an elaborate display. However, if I can’t convince my mom to go for a drive to see everything in person, we watch the Great Christmas Light Fight, the displays on this show are amazing. My mom and I make sure to watch a few episodes every year.

Holiday Celebrations With Family & Friends: Years ago, one of my friends decided we would have a party sometime in the days following Christmas and he suggested we do it at my house so that I wouldn’t have to worry about accessibility and everything. We did this for several years and it was so much fun. I’m telling you this because even though it is not the year for parties, it doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with your friends this season. You can get together with your friends virtually and wear a festive outfit or you can host a watch party and stream your favorite Christmas movies. You can still celebrate the holidays with your daily and friends even if you can’t be in the same place.
This year has been terrible in so many ways, but I’ve had some good moments as well. This Christmas season will be unlike any other, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get into the spirit of the season. After I finish all the things I need to do for my blog, I’ll be donning my Ugly Christmas sweater and curling up on the couch for hours of Christmas movies or episodes of The Great Christmas Light Fight, or both.. Who knows? Anyway, if you are struggling to get into the Christmas spirit, I hope this post helps. Happy Holidays!
Kimberly
