Day-by-day, the news surrounding the Coronavirus is getting more worrisome. Some states have a shelter in place order and these days the only establishments that are open are those that are truly necessary. From social distancing to staying home except for the essentials, it’s easy-to-go a little stir crazy. Although I haven’t been home for the amount of time that we’re looking at due to this virus or had to distance myself socially before, there were times when I was stuck inside due to my disability. We all know that keeping busy helps pass the time little by little, so I’m sharing a few go-to activities I like to do while staying home, some of which I’m making more time for considering everything that’s happening.

Activities To Do While Staying Home
Spring Clean/ Get Organized: Now is a great time to spring clean but it can be boring, after a certain point so distract yourself with something else like music or an audiobook. I love spring cleaning my closet because I have fun going through all the styles I used to like, but other times I have to break it into sections so it will get done. The other day, I decided to organize my makeup drawers, but it was tedious so I listened to a podcast while I cleaned.
Read: Do you have a list of books, you’ve been putting off reading? Well, now’s the time to get started, grab that book and get comfortable. I love to read so I’m going to make sure I set aside time for that especially since it’s a great way to spend a few hours. Check out two of my favorite recent reads here.
Practice A Skill / Learn A New One: Spending all this time at home means it’s a great time to practice a skill or discover a new one. I know I’ll be working on my makeup skills even more now that I have some more time for it. As for learning a new skill, I’m not sure yet, maybe I’ll find something, maybe not, we’ll see. For now, I’ll just focus on makeup.
Virtual Hangouts: You may have to physically distance yourself from your friends for your health & safety as well as theirs, but that doesn’t mean you can’t hang out with them. We’re all at home. Call them to catch up or video chat so you can see each other face-to-face, talk to them while you binge-watch your favorite shows together, or have a watch party on Facebook or one of the other apps that are now offering this option, you can even have a virtual book club. Schedule the hangouts if you have to ensure you make time for it.

Stream Shows & Movies: Catch up on your favorite shows or watch old episodes. There are a number of streaming services from Netflix and Hulu to newer services like Disney Plus. Add a few items to your watchlist and get settled in for a few hours or a day of streaming your favorites.
Do Some Puzzles: Puzzles and other activities like crosswords are a great way to do something fun that keeps your brain active. You can do a puzzle right out of the box or using an app. I’ll admit I like to complete virtual word searches and crossword puzzles, however, there’s just something about doing a puzzle the old fashion way that’s fun too.
Self- Care: Time for self-care is something we all need, but still struggle to make time to do for some reason. Now that you have more time at home, factor in some time for self-care, whether it’s simply doing another activity on this list or something else, do some things for yourself during this time.
Excercise: Last, but certainly not least on the list of activities to do while staying home is exercise. Whether you were going to a gym to workout or considered going about your day as long as you moved around enough exercise, right now that’s all changed. Nevertheless, it’s a good idea to find ways to get a workout while at home during this time. I like to use weights and resistance bands to maintain the strength in my arms, As for my legs, I haven’t figured out a routine that works for me yet, but maybe now’s a good time to start working on that.
Staying home for an extended period of time is going to be hard, but it’s important for our health as well as the health of those around us. I hope this list of activities to do while at home makes it a little easier for you to get through this time. Do you have any activities that you like to do that you think I should add to this list? Let me know in the comments
