Can you believe it’s the end of June already? When a new season is just around the corner I’m always excited about the fashion aspect of it. This year is so much fun fashion-wise because for the last year we’ve been in comfortable clothes at home staying safe. Since places are opening back up, it seems as if we’re all ready to go, changed from our experiences over the past year in so many ways, and now is the time to step out with a new attitude and outfits to just that. Whether those new outfits include new summer pieces is up to you, but I’m always on the lookout for new pieces, even when I’m comfortable with my style because it’s great for outfit inspiration and fun. Some of these trends won’t be new to you, but I mention them because they seem to even more popular than they normally are, with that, let’s get to the fashion trends for the summer.
Fashion Trends For Summer 2021
Minis: I’m super excited about this one, min skirts and mini dresses are definitely big this year. Although a mini style dress can be worn for casual occasions or more formal ones, (considering the style, fabric, and few other factors, I was a bit surprised to find it among the trends for the season, but then again it’s the type of piece you wear for a night out and with the world opening back up, that’s exactly what people will be doing at some point. I’ve always loved the style but didn’t wear it often because I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about it in my chair, but I pair the dresses with biker shorts especially if I’m going to be transferring, but I wouldn’t suggest doing it too often because it may not be comfortable to have that extra layer on in the summer. Want to see how I styled one of the mini dresses in my closet for this summer fashion trend? Keep reading.

Straps, Straps, and More Straps: Do you like tops and dresses that feature beautiful designs with straps, if so make sure you check out a few of your favorite places to shop this season because straps are in. Personally, this is one trend I won’t be participating in, not in that manner anyway, this summer I’m sticking to strappy sandals.
Crop Tops & Cutouts: Is it just me or have crop tops been around for the seasons in a similar way to florals? It seems as if everything is cropped these days and I’ll be honest when they first started appearing in my favorite store I bypassed them completely because I usually wear tops that can be tucked into my pants or come down over the waistline so I don’t have to worry about wardrobe malfunctions when transferring, but I’ve been looking at them with a new perspective lately, they are the perfect way to refresh a plain cami or t-shirt. A crop-top also gives you the added bonus of not worrying too much about getting hot if you layer it with something
Cutouts: This aspect of tops and dresses is something that has come back over the past few seasons, but now it seems to be a prominent feature for the season. In my opinion cutouts, like minis are great for a night out. This aspect is usually on the waist, top, or sleeves, and adds a little depth to a piece that might otherwise be simple.
Puffy Sleeves: Like crop tops & floral, puffy sleeves come back and have been around for a few years. While it wasn’t something I wore a lot when it first started appearing in stores, I eventually pick up this trend because I loved the softer vibe the big-sleeved design had.

Colors & Patterns:
Do you like colors or patterns in your wardrobe? if you do stick to the ones that you know work for you that you love. I can tell you personally that breaking this rule and going for something trendy will be a lesson in buyer’s remorse.
Pastels: According to Pantone, the colors for the spring/ summer of 2021 include a lot of pastels as well as darker hues of those same colors. A few of the colors I know I’ll be wearing this season are:
- Mint Green
- Green Ash: a lighter green
- Amethyst Orchid, a bold purple
- French Blue
- Burnt Coral
- Raspberry Sorbet,a color for accessories
A few of the other colors popular this season are a light yellow, Marigold, a golden orange, Cerulean Blue, Rust, an earthy brown, which are pretty, but they aren’t really my colors
Florals: If you’ve been reading my blog, or following me on Instagram, you know I’ve been going back and forth on florals for a while. When they first started appearing years ago, I stayed away from the trend, but over the years because it wasn’t my style, the pattern has grown on me, but I’m still particular about the style of the floral pattern on the pieces that I wear. When I started wearing the trend, that was something that I had to learn, you can like and add a trend to your wardrobe without being fully immersed in it, you can choose how you wear it. Are you going to go big and bold or more understated? Is it going to be the main aspect of your outfit or are you going to add it as a feature through accessories? You decide
Big Prints: Big and bold prints are in and while it’s not my style really, I have a feeling it’s not going anywhere, prints whatever they are add depth to an outfit and can draw the eyes to certain aspects of an outfit over others. Prints can give you options and can be fun to play around with, most big prints are not my style.
Stripes: Stripes are in this season. This is honestly a take it or leave it fashion trend for me because I am not a fan of most stripes, in fact, I’m really particular about the pieces that do contain stripes. I love big stripes on the pieces I wear, but a number of factors fall into the process for me such as the kind of piece, fabric, and colors, so as I said, particular.

Accessories
My favorite part of dressing up, despite the fact I do little more than add earrings….. for new. Jewelry, something, I’m horrible at adding to my outfits, aside from earrings, anyway. I’m working this season, so it’s the perfect time to investigate the trends of the season at the very least for some outfit inspiration.
Charms: I’m really excited about this trend because, to me, charms are the jewelry version of graphic t-shirts, fun and playful. I’m looking forward to trying out different styles to see what fits with my wardrobe:
Pearls: Pearls in my opinion are signature pieces for an elevated look, while I was never a fan of the pearl necklace and probably never will be, I’m looking forward to shopping around of jewelry pieces that have pearl aspects that I love,
Shoes: There are some cute shoe trends this summer, but none that I’ll be adding to my wardrobe, I won’t go into them too much, but if you’re looking to add some new shoes to your wardrobe and want to start with trends be sure to consider
- Animal print aspects for sandals
- Elevated or Not so simple flats
- Mules: something I would have considered with the ease to get them one, but without a black aspect, they would not stay that way so while stylish, they’re not functional
- High Heels: Cute, but not functional for me
- Flip-Flops: Again cute, but they would not stay on
If you want to bypass all trends and stay true to how you define your style, or keep an eye one what’s trending to see if it inspires any outfit ideas for you to make it your own. You can also dip your toe in a rend without fully embracing it, for example, one trend this season is retro prints, if you want to try out the trend by an accessory with the pattern, a scarf or earrings to see if it really works for you.
Your style is yours and trends will come and go, but only you can decide what truly works for your sense of style. Fashion trends are optional, sure they can be fun ways to add elements to your style, but if you say no to them then your style as is works for you and that’s okay too. Whether this post helps you just so you know what’s trending, or is a part of you refining your wardrobe, the important thing is that you have fun with the process.
