Makeup, like fashion, is about your own personal style, and just like fashion makeup has its trends. From subtle to bold, you can wear makeup in a way that fits your style. If you asked me years ago, I would’ve said don’t bother paying attention to makeup trends, just do what works for you, makeup you like. You should always wear makeup that you love, but be open to makeup trends and trying new things. Why? Giving makeup trends a try helps you avoid a makeup rut, find inspiration for new looks, and more. Colors to finishes to certain styles are always changing in makeup, but these are the makeup trends you’ll be seeing in 2020.
Makeup Trends & Styles For 2020
Blush, Blush, & More Blush: If you’ve been skipping the blush application for your everyday makeup routine, start practicing your skills if you want to give this makeup trend a try. Blush is a big trend this year,
Floating Eyeliner: Trends involving eyeliner are big for this year. Floating eyeliner is an eyeliner application that’s not on the lashline. It’s mostly anywhere else from the outer like you’re doing a winged liner or in the crease. There are several ways you can wear this trend whether it’s a line or two or the outline for your winged liner to an application that’s a little thicker than a single line. When I first saw this makeup trend for 2020, I couldn’t help laughing a little because I kept accidentally applying my liner too high for the lash line essentially creating this exact look when I first started, if only I’d have waited a few more years to get into makeup.
Vegan, Cruelty-Free Sustainable Beauty: These days we’re more conscious of what we’re putting on our skin as well as if it harms the environment as well as socially responsible. Most beauty brands these days are vegan and don’t test on animals, but green beauty is a more recent development that has come about in the last few years and making its appearance known this year.

Hybrid Skincare Makeup : Good skin helps your makeup look even better on you. Now it seems makeup with built-in skincare benefits is actually a thing. Of course, there have been products like tinted moisturizers, BB and CC creams, but now it’s going a step further with products like Covergirl’s Clean Fresh Skin Milk Foundation from the new Clean Fresh Collection. This foundation is vegan and formulated without parabens, sulfates and a few other things that are harmful to your skin, it’s also supposed to be a moisturizing foundation and help give your skin a flawless look. This product is on my makeup wishlist for my next haul.
Subtle Makeup Looks: The no-makeup makeup trend has been around for a few years, but it seems it’s just everywhere these days. These days you’ll see subtle makeup looks that use tinted moisturizers over foundation or light to medium coverage over full coverage foundations. I’ve also seen simple eyeliner or mascara looks instead of full eye makeup with false lashes and lip gloss with nude lip colors for a soft but fresh kind of vibe.
Rhinestones Around The Eye: I know doesn’t seem at all in line with what I just said about subtle eye makeup looks, but stay with me for a second. Rhinestones around the eyes is a fun makeup trend popping up now, one I don’t really see going anywhere soon. That being said, although Rhinestones now seem to be part of a few eye makeup looks, the actual makeup look is subtle like I previously described. This trend looks like it would be fun for a night out, that is when we no longer have to stay home for health concerns, but it’s not something I’ll be trying unless I have help because I don’t like the thought of being the one to apply glue and tiny rhinestones anywhere near my eyes.

White/Colorful Eyeliner: Black eyeliner will always be a classic, but eyeliner in several other colors is a part of makeup looks these days, anything from white to pink, to blue, to orange are being used in a makeup look. Years ago, I tried white eyeliner on my top lashes and I was not a fan, but trying a few other colors could be fun. It’s on my list of things to do while practicing my makeup since I’m staying home.
Pink or Blue Eye Makeup: Another makeup trend I’m looking forward to playing around with is pink or blue eye makeup looks. Bold looks can be fun in the colors or you can go the subtle route and use lighter hues of the colors.
Classic Red Lip: A red lip just like black eyeliner will always be classic. If you want to go for a bold look on the lips, go with red lipstick. I love subtle looks so while I’ll wear red lipstick on occasion, I prefer to wear a red lip tint or lip gloss.
There are other makeup trends for 2020, but these are the ones that seem to be the most popular. Nonetheless, as I said just because something is trending doesn’t mean you have to follow it, do what feels right to you. The trends I’m looking forward to the most are the eyeliner trends, colorful eye makeup, and hybrid skincare makeup products especially since I have more time to practice. Have you seen a makeup trend that you think should be on this list? Is there a trend on this list, you’re looking forward to trying out? Let me know in the comments.
