Today I decided to fun post and share a little bit more about me for as the woman behind this platform. During the month of March, I like to do one fun post, not just as a way to celebrate my birthday on the blog, but to add a little light-heartedness to the content of the month because March is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month and Women’s History Month. I’m often doing content surrounding this since it’s a big part of reason for starting this blog, it can be heavy and hard to write. Therefore, every year, I like to do one low-key post and this year it’s Meet the Writer Behind the Sitting Beauty Diaries. Now that that’s done let’s get to those questions shall we?

Meet The Writer Of The Sitting Beauty Diaries
What is Your Why For The Sitting Beauty Diaries?
The short answer is: When I was younger I was really into fashion and makeup so I was always looking for style tip, but some of the solutions I saw didn’t work for me as a wheelchair user. I wanted to create a platform that answered these style questions, but also took living with disability and how it affects your body into account. A place where women knew they could be disabled and stylish.
What is your Writing Process or Style?
I don’t know that I have a definite style or process, although working to find one is something I’ve set as an intention for this year. Currently, there will be times when something inspires an idea or I’ll be looking for an idea around a specific topic as I did with this post, but I mostly aim to keep my content informative, but fun. You tell me, have I succeeded?

What Do You Like Most About Style?
What I like most about fashion or style doesn’t have to do with that all, rather how it can invite conversation, be it a simple compliment from a stranger or a debate about something happening in the industry or something in between. Growing up as a wheelchair user, I was to people coming up to me often asking questions, sometimes invasive ones about my disability. However, when I started paying attention to my sense of style, people would come up to me once in a while not to ask about my disability, but to comment on some part of my outfit. When I would have more conversations with people as a woman who liked fashion instead of “the girl in a wheelchair” we could have interesting discussions where disability was sometimes a topic that came up and other times not at all.
What Do You Know Now That You Wish You Knew ( Growing up & Entering College & The Working World?
If you’ve been visiting the Sitting Diaries long enough, you know exactly what I’m going to say, I wish I knew growing up how negatively my disability would impact my job prospects. The way someone perceives as person with a disability is not something that we can control, but I wish I knew at an earlier age how tough the job market would be for those of us with disabilities, because I would have done more research, taken more, classes, seeked out internships sooner so that I knew that I was doing everything I could to get get that job or opportunity.
If You Studied A Different Topic In School What Would It Be
If I studied a different topic in school, I’d probably end up being a vet. I love animals so I think working as a vet with marine or wildlife animals would be interesting.

When Are You The Most Inspired?
I gather inspiration from everywhere. Characters in books or tv shows inspire me, reading fashion magazines, or just doing everyday things when I’m stuck on an idea. I honestly just hate that it takes time and I just have to wait for something to spark instead of forcing something to come to me.
What is The Thing You Really Wish People Knew About Interacting With Someone With A Disability?
This is a hard question because growing up with a disability my answer changed from time to time, but those things I felt at a specific time are mostly still true today. Society has come a long way in how they treat and react to people with disabilities, bit if I had to pick one thing while I’m in my late 20s it would be:by not taking disability people into account as consumers, and/ or employees, businesses are missing out on the spending power of the community and/or the valuable insight they bring to the company from having to look at the world differently than what society perceives as normal.
What’s One Of Your Favorite Books?
One of my favorite books is one that I read years ago by Mitch Albom titled: The Time Keeper. I love this book because for me, it serves as a reminder that time is finite and to cherish the time that you have with the important people in your life.
I had such a fun time writing this post and sharing it with you, I was inspired by something similar I saw another blogger write. If you would like me do more posts like this or something similar or if you have another question, let me know in the commets. Happy Cerebral Palsy Awareness and Women’s History Month everyone.
